What is in a name? Every registered cat carries as a prefix, the name of the cattery in which it was bred. For instance, Alchemist Journey To Atlantis, tells us that she was bred by me because my cattery name is Alchemist and her name is Journey To Atlantis. However, the cat named Sanmar's Traces O'Silver of Alchemist, tells us that he was bred by the Sanmar cattery and is now registered as being a part of the Alchemist cattery.
Eye color: The eye color for all of my Silver and Golden cats is green or blue-green as required by the CFA Show Standard. The eye color of Silver Tabbies can be either green, hazel or copper and solid black Persians are required to have copper eyes per the CFA Show Standard.
About PKD: All of my cats or their parents/grandparents have been DNA tested and are negative for PKD1 by UCDavis DNA Testing. PKD1 is a genetic condition that is not carried as a recessive gene. Therefore, if both parents are PKD1 negative, all of their offspring will also be negative. If only one cat is positive for PKD1 and the other is negative, some of their offspring could be negative while others could be positive; and the negative kittens will not be carriers of the PKD1 gene. If both parents are positive for PKD1, then all of their offspring will be positive.
To confirm a positive diagnosis of PKD1, a DNA test must be performed since other things can cause cysts on the kidneys. The PKD1 test is currently the only DNA test for PKD. There may be other forms of PKD that cannot be tested for at this time.
For your peace of mind, I have posted the recent PKD1 DNA test results for all of my cats. Those who were not tested have two negative parents and are therefore negative by parentage. The N/N on each certificate signifies the negative test results. A full size copy of the certificates will accompany each kitten when it goes to its new home and should be placed in their records with their personal veterinarian.
